he UPSC Civil Services (CSE) Prelims 2026 is scheduled for May 24, 2026, with the Mains exam starting on August 21, 2026, as per the official UPSC Calendar 2026.

For UPSC 2026, candidates generally need to be Indian citizens, hold a Bachelor’s degree, be aged 21-32 (with relaxations for reserved categories), and have a limited number of attempts (e.g., 6 for General), meeting these criteria as of August 1, 2026, with final-year students eligible provisionally. Eligibility hinges on nationality, age (21-32 for Gen, relaxations for OBC/SC/ST), education (any grad degree), and attempts, with physical standards applying later. 

Key Eligibility Criteria:

Provisional Admission: Final-year graduation students can apply but must submit proof of passing by the Mains exam. 

Nationality: Must be a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee (before Jan 1, 1962), or a Person of Indian Origin (PIO) from specific countries. 

Educational Qualification: A Bachelor’s degree (Graduation) from a recognized university or equivalent. 

Age Limit (as of Aug 1, 2026):

General: 21-32 years. 

OBC: 21-35 years (3 attempts). 

SC/ST: 21-37 years (Unlimited attempts). 

PwBD: Age relaxations up to 42 years. 

Number of Attempts:

General: 6 attempts. 

OBC: 9 attempts. 

SC/ST: Unlimited (up to age limit).
